JoeAnna’s House provides a home-away-from-home to keep families together when they need it most; a place to rest and relax within steps of KGH and their loved one’s bedside; a place to be in community with others who are navigating a similar, difficult path.

Research shows that patients heal better when surrounded by their loved ones.

Mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, sisters and brothers, and friends are able to stay close – to their loved ones in hospital, and to each other.

JoeAnna’s House offers a home-away-from-home for loved ones with family members admitted to Kelowna General Hospital.

JoeAnna’s House welcomes families who live outside of the Central Okanagan area and who have a loved one who is hospitalized at Kelowna General Hospital.

Bookings are by referral only. Families can request a referral using the referral request form below. We work together with families and IH Social workers/clinical staff to assess need and then will be in touch regarding availability. **Eligibility is assessed on a family-by-family basis. While the criteria forms the basis of who can stay at JoeAnna’s House, exceptions may be considered per the assessment of an IH Social Worker.

How Much Does It Cost To Stay?

The cost to stay at JoeAnna’s House is $25/night. Should you require a further subsidized rate please speak with an IH Social Worker.

How Do I Book My Stay?

We are unable to accept walk-ins. Families can request a referral or be referred through their IH Social worker.

Who can stay? What are the criteria? How far away do I have to live to stay here?

JoeAnna’s House welcomes families and friends who live outside of the Central Okanagan and who have a loved one who is hospitalized at Kelowna General Hospital. Patients are not able to stay at JoeAnna’s House. Only one Guest room per patient’s family can be allocated. A family is designed as 1 person up to a maximum of 4.

At least one member of the family must be 19 years of age or older.

JoeAnna’s House is also available to high-risk pregnant women who live outside of the area but are required to be close to the hospital

Eligibility is assessed on a family-by-family basis. While the above criteria form the basis of who can stay at JoeAnna’s House, exceptions may be considered.

Do Patients Stay Here Or Is It Just For Family Members?

JoeAnna’s house cannot accommodate patients.

Are Rooms Always Available? How Do I Confirm My Stay?

Stays are based on availability and due to the unpredictable nature of our guests’ situations we are unable to confirm a room until 24 hours in advance. Room requests can be made at any time; however we can only guarantee a room 24 hours prior to arrival.

Those families who are having to find alternate accommodations due to lack of availability at JoeAnna’s House will remain on a waitlist and will be offered a room once it becomes available.

Is JoeAnna’s House Just for Families with Kids at KGH?

No. Families with children in care at KGH will have priority and it is anticipated they will occupy at least 50% of the rooms at any given time.

Is there Childcare Available?

No. Children under the age of 19 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Can Pets Stay?

We can accommodate Certified Guide Dogs and Service Dogs only.

Is There Parking On Site?

Yes. JoeAnna’s House has complimentary parking for our registered guests.

Is There a Meal Program?

JoeAnna’s House has a large guest-use kitchen with dedicated fridge and pantry space for each guest room. In addition, from time-to-time there will be meals offered, prepared by volunteers.

How Far is The Hospital?

JoeAnna’s House is located next to Kelowna General Hospital. In fact, it is just steps away. Depending on which entrance you choose, you can walk there in less than 5 minutes.
